Title: 2018 Woodward Dream Cruise – Mustang Alley | Client: Ford Performance / Campbell Marketing | Role: Editor / Producer
The Woodward Dream Cruise – Mustang Alley
The Woodward Dream Cruise is a special time for me. I grew up in Metro Detroit and I remember going to the first cruises over 20 years ago with my family. Fast forward to today, and now I am making videos representing Ford and the entire Dream Cruise. It’s amazing. I am very fortunate to be in this position.
These days are long, hot, and hard. We get down there around 5:30 am and shoot those first cars rolling in around 7 am. From there it is a scramble of shooting interviews with amazing executives who are always awesome to work with (not just saying that, I truly mean it), getting as much footage of the 1200 plus Mustangs we can get, and we shoot special videos of owners telling their Mustang stories.
We get such an amazing group of people together to have this all come together in a short amount of time within a realistic budget. Johnny Waller shoots so much stuff with me and he nails it every year. It wouldn’t feel right if I didn’t have him there with me. John Miller joined us this year and it was fun to tell him “your job is just to go shoot cool stuff all day. Have fun.” He was perfect. Joe Brzuchanski ran around with us and did an awesome job with the boom mic. It was so nice to not have to lav people up and try to make it look good and sound good. All of that was possible because of how well Steve Wagner lined everything up for us. He had perfect questions and everyone responded to him beautifully. All the people at Campbell Marketing that I didn’t see behind the scenes, I appreciate this.
I get to put the icing on the cake. I get home hopefully around 5-6 to get this video edited and back to them the same night. It happened this year. So once all the approvals get done, boom, video up the next day. The story is fun to craft and the energy down there is so great to be around. I really wish I could get nice wide shots of the 10’s of thousands of people right there but for legal reasons getting a shot like that is hard. If you have never been to Mustang Alley, come down to 9 Mile and Woodward in Ferndale and check it out for yourself. Mustang Alley has been there for 20 years and I see no signs of it slowing down.
Thank you, Joe, for the pictures.
